Kinesis Advantage 2 Keyboard Layouts 2026

Written by Rickard Lindberg Profile picture of Rickard.

This post documents the keyboard layouts that I use in 2026 for my Kinesis Advantage 2 keyboard.

The majority comes from Kinesis Advantage 2 Swedish Setup. But I also documented other remaps that I have been using and fixed the keypad 0 to space.

l_qwerty.txt

The Linux layout.

[caps]>[lctrl]

[lctrl]>[lalt]

[lalt]>[kpshift]
[kp-lalt]>[kpshift]

{kp-\}>{speed9}{-lctrl}{-lshift}{u}{0}{0}{e}{5}{+lshift}{+lctrl}
{kp-lshift}{kp-\}>{speed9}{-lctrl}{-lshift}{u}{0}{0}{c}{5}{+lshift}{+lctrl}
{lshift}{kp-\}>{speed9}{-lctrl}{-lshift}{u}{0}{0}{c}{5}{+lshift}{+lctrl}

{kp-'}>{speed9}{-lctrl}{-lshift}{u}{0}{0}{e}{4}{+lshift}{+lctrl}
{kp-lshift}{kp-'}>{speed9}{-lctrl}{-lshift}{u}{0}{0}{c}{4}{+lshift}{+lctrl}
{lshift}{kp-'}>{speed9}{-lctrl}{-lshift}{u}{0}{0}{c}{4}{+lshift}{+lctrl}

{kpplus}>{speed9}{-lctrl}{-lshift}{u}{0}{0}{f}{6}{+lshift}{+lctrl}
{kp-lshift}{kpplus}>{speed9}{-lctrl}{-lshift}{u}{0}{0}{d}{6}{+lshift}{+lctrl}
{lshift}{kpplus}>{speed9}{-lctrl}{-lshift}{u}{0}{0}{d}{6}{+lshift}{+lctrl}

[kp0]>[space]

[rctrl]>[enter]

Here is an explanation of the groups:

  • Left control where it should be

  • The left control can then become left alt

  • The original left alt can then be bound to the keypad switch

  • Macros for Swedish å/Å in keypad layer

    • å = U+00E5 (0229 decimal)

    • Å = U+00C5 (0197 decimal)

  • Macros for Swedish ä/Ä in keypad layer

    • ä = U+00E4 (0228 decimal)

    • Ä = U+00C4 (0196 decimal)

  • Macros for Swedish ö/Ö in keypad layer

    • ö = U+00F6 (0246 decimal)

    • Ö = U+00D6 (0214 decimal)

  • Remap 0 to space in keypad layer

  • A more convenient enter

w_qwerty.txt

The Windows layout. Same as l_qwerty.txt except that Unicode characters are input differently on Windows.

[caps]>[lctrl]

[lctrl]>[lalt]

[lalt]>[kpshift]
[kp-lalt]>[kpshift]

{kp-\}>{speed9}{-lalt}{kp0}{kp2}{kp2}{kp9}{+lalt}
{kp-lshift}{kp-\}>{speed9}{-lalt}{kp0}{kp1}{kp9}{kp7}{+lalt}
{lshift}{kp-\}>{speed9}{-lalt}{kp0}{kp1}{kp9}{kp7}{+lalt}

{kp-'}>{speed9}{-lalt}{kp0}{kp2}{kp2}{kp8}{+lalt}
{kp-lshift}{kp-'}>{speed9}{-lalt}{kp0}{kp1}{kp9}{kp6}{+lalt}
{lshift}{kp-'}>{speed9}{-lalt}{kp0}{kp1}{kp9}{kp6}{+lalt}

{kpplus}>{speed9}{-lalt}{kp0}{kp2}{kp4}{kp6}{+lalt}
{kp-lshift}{kpplus}>{speed9}{-lalt}{kp0}{kp2}{kp1}{kp4}{+lalt}
{lshift}{kpplus}>{speed9}{-lalt}{kp0}{kp2}{kp1}{kp4}{+lalt}

[kp0]>[space]

[rctrl]>[enter]

Manual

The manual (downloaded from https://kinesis-ergo.com/wp-content/uploads/Adv2-Users-Manual-US_6-22-21.pdf) is handy when working with these layouts.
