Yesterday I watched two Youtube videos that gave me great guidance to become a better photographer.
The first video was this:
The creator proposes an approach that starts with the moment of inspiration. That feeling that hits you saying "this would make a great photo".
Once you have that, you should try to compose an image that captures that moment of inspiration. He gives some guidance how to do that including
Remove objects that were not part of the moment of inspiration
Identify the subject
Clarify and amplify the subject
Provide space around all objects
The second video was this:
The creator is a documentary photographer and begins by saying that
Documentaries are ideas or a story and then evidence to support that idea or story.
And then proposes how to apply that to a photo walk:
Instead of observing, what if, like directing a documentary, what if you had an agenda, and then you found evidence to support your agenda?
What is the title of today's documentary?
When going out to shoot, this title can give you some focus to what moments of inspiration to look for.
I feel like combined, they can help me create more interesting photos. I should try it the next time I'm out shooting.
What is Rickard working on and thinking about right now?
Every month I write a newsletter about just that. You will get updates about my current projects and thoughts about programming, and also get a chance to hit reply and interact with me. Subscribe to it below.
